In anticipation of Prime Day 2024, Amazon has introduced a new version of its Echo Spot, an Alexa-enabled smart speaker and alarm clock. Designed to fit comfortably on a nightstand, this updated model maintains the core functionality of its 2017 predecessor but does not include a camera.

The new Echo Spot is priced more affordably than its predecessor. While the 2017 model debuted at $149.99, the 2024 version has a regular price of $79.99. From now through Prime Day (July 16th-17th), it’s available for $44.99 for Amazon Prime members. Amazon claims the new model features improved hardware, offering better visuals and audio quality. It also supports the setup and control of Matter devices in your smart home, similar to the Echo Dot and Echo Pop, with connectivity options including 2.4 and 5GHz Wi-Fi, Amazon Sidewalk, and Bluetooth Low Energy Mesh.

For added convenience, the Echo Spot includes a hardware button to disable the microphone and physical volume controls. It now comes in blue, in addition to the existing white and black options. The display offers six customizable colors and various clock face designs. There are also animations for responses to queries about the weather, greetings, and other prompts.

As expected, Alexa integration remains a key feature, enabling routines that can activate multiple smart home devices, audio drop-ins from other Alexa devices, and alerts from compatible smart doorbells. The 2.83-inch, 240 x 320-pixel touchscreen isn’t designed for video calls or streaming but is ideal for controlling music playback or accessing tap controls for smart home functions via Alexa.
