Apple has released iOS 17.5, which includes several updates. One significant addition is support for a cross-OS alert system for unwanted Bluetooth trackers, developed in collaboration with Google. Another key feature is the introduction of web-based app distribution within the European Union.

This change follows the implementation of the Digital Markets Act by the EU. However, it comes with specific conditions. Developers wishing to allow iOS app downloads from their websites must adhere to new App Store rules. This includes paying a fee after reaching a certain user threshold, maintaining a developer account in good standing, and having an app with over a million iOS installs in the EU in the past year.

iOS 17.5 also introduces a feature called Repair State. This allows iPhone users to send in their devices for repair without needing to disable the Find My feature. In addition, Apple News+ has received some updates. The app now includes an offline mode, enabling users to access content without an internet connection, which is especially useful during flights.

Lastly, Apple has updated its annual Pride collection to honor the LGBTQ+ community. This includes a new Pride Radiance watch face and customizable wallpapers for iOS and iPadOS, available in a variety of colors. iOS 17.5 is now available for download.
