Apple has introduced a modest update to its premium AirPods Max headphones. Rather than releasing a completely new model, the company has made a few minor adjustments to the existing design, focusing on cosmetic changes and the addition of USB-C charging support.

The updated AirPods Max will still carry the same $549 price tag, keeping them as the most expensive option in Apple’s AirPods lineup. The changes are primarily aesthetic, with the headphones now available in five new shades: midnight, blue, purple, orange, and starlight. Additionally, Apple has swapped out the previous lightning connector for a USB-C port, a change also seen in the Beats Studio Pro headphones. These refreshed AirPods Max will be available for purchase starting September 20, with pre-orders open now.

For those expecting more substantial upgrades, the latest version of the AirPods Max remains largely the same. The design is unchanged, featuring the familiar breathable knit mesh headband, stainless steel frame, and memory foam ear cups. Apple hasn’t updated the internal chip, sticking with the H1, nor have there been any new audio features added.
